Israel Marañón De Pablo is a Spanish artist based in Madrid whose practice explores the space between abstraction and figuration. Through painting, he investigates texture as both a physical and emotional language, creating works that unfold through layers of material, gesture, and color.
His multidisciplinary approach draws from Abstract Expressionism, classical Spanish painting, and French Symbolism, while resisting direct references to any single tradition. Instead, these influences converge into a personal visual language in which surface becomes a site of transformation. Working with unconventional tools and experimental techniques, Marañón builds tactile compositions that invite sustained contemplation and reward close looking.
Having lived and worked in Paris, Singapore, New York, and now Madrid, his practice has been shaped by diverse cultural contexts and artistic traditions. During his time in New York, he was a member of the Chelsea-based New Century Artists collective, and he expanded his formal training through painting studies at The New School in New York and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
His work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, and Madrid. He is currently presenting Madrid, his latest body of abstract paintings, at the Contemporary Art Museum of Carrión de los Condes in Palencia, Spain.
